As much fun as it is to see Aloe's face light up with every mention of Santa Clause, Christmas trees, and water parks, I have to admit, I'm happy the season is coming to an end. Does that make me a bad mother? What, with all of the performances my five beautiful children have starred in all month, I've had almost no "me" time. And I get that I don't need "me" time to feel fulfilled if I truly love my children. But I like having it every now and then, anyway.
Last night as I was tucking Casper into bed he asked me something that has been on my mind all day: "Mommy, if you had a friend who spoke to you as you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow that person to be your friend?" I thought through his question and wondered whether he meant anything deeper by it than what it seemed at face value (now that he's 2 years old, I just don't know anymore). I guess I'll keep thinking about it this week.
Sorry for the disjointed thoughts tonight. My thoughts in print are sort of reflective of my soul right now. Sometimes it's hard to be a single working mom of five gifted, trendy children.
~It Just Gets More Poignant
This is totes a real blog about my real children and is in no way made up at all. Also, June Snapple is a whore.

Fortify's 10th Haiku
Fortify wrote the most amazing haiku the other day in her preschool about me as a mom (and I didn't even help her!). I'm so embarrassed about how flattering it is of me and how much it makes me look like a good parent, but I just HAVE to share it:

I Swear These Really Are My Trendy Kids
Sometimes it's hard to work down at the quarry, bathe the Queen of Colors, attend AA meetings, and raise 5 kids. But I do it. And as you can see, they are all very trendy. Aloe and Casper did the cutest thing the other day. The cutest thing ever. You wouldn't believe it. Cider and Opaque did not like the lack of attention. Boy did I have my hands full!

Queen of Colors Woes
The Queen of Colors has been extremely testy lately during her daily baths. It has been so difficult to get her to hold still while I scrub her hock and shanks. Perhaps she's troubled because she's full grown now and has yet to lay an egg. Any day now Q of C. Any day.
The kids are good to her, although she is definitely not good to them. My oldest, Fortify (age 4), consistently tells me that the Queen of Colors is capable of unspeakable evil. While she has been known to invite evil spirits into the home, I won't be worried until there's an actual death.
